It's time to say goodbye...

It's time to say goodbye...
It’s been a while since I’ve posted here. Life has been busy, and changes have been happening almost daily. But my time away has given me some time to think and to gain some perspective, which has led me to make a big decision…

I have decided it is time to close Luludu.

It’s a bitter sweet decision, but I feel the right one to make.

I am so proud of how far the business has come in the last 7 years. From receiving crochet lessons with my dear friend Ruth while living in Byron Bay, spending hours upon hours crocheting all day and night perfecting the patterns. To working with the amazing team at tonle in Cambodia in 2014, and finally working with the incredible women in Bali in 2017 – this journey has been something I will cherish forever.

There are many factors that have contributed to this decision.. Some being the shoes are not an easy product to make - there are many steps involved which means mistakes are easy to make, so wholesaling wasn't much of an option. There are many costs involved for both production and running of the business, and sales haven't been consistent (having a very limited range probably didn’t help this).

All of this means financially Luludu has not been as successful as I hoped, and even though there was a bigger purpose than just making a profit, this is an issue that cannot be ignored if a business is going to last long term (I’ve learnt a lot on this over the years and gosh do I have some wisdom to share for other women wanting to start a business, which I will be sharing more of over on my Instagram in the coming weeks)

This decision hasn't been easy or fast - the hardest part in closing the business is knowing that I have let the makers down. I've seen first hand how hard it is finding work, and the way they (and many women in their situations) are struggling to support themselves and their families, and I really had hoped that they wouldn't have to worry anymore.

I am in the early stages of building my next business (graphic and web design for heart-centered female creatives who are on a mission to change the world!) and although the crochet shoes will not be back, I am still trying to find ways to continue to support the makers, so who knows what products may come into creation in the near future.

If you follow me on social media you will (hopefully - c'mon algorithm!) be seeing me pop up in your news feed more frequently as the business comes to an end, and I may even pop back into your emails once or twice before I shut the doors for good. But I did want to take this opportunity to say... to everyone who has ever supported the business, commented, liked, signed up to an email, shared or engaged with Luludu in some way – thank you. You were a part of this mission to make the lives of the makers better. To acknowledge that the fashion industry needs to change. To have a deep knowing that we need to appreciate our clothes, their story and their mission, as this world needs a major shift if we are going to get through the next 100 years.

The kindly made crochet shoes and bags that is currently online is all that will be available, and once they're gone they'll be gone forever.

I am offering 15% off my ENTIRE online store
No code needed - the discount will be automatically added at the checkout.

Again, thank you for joining me on this journey. So much love to you.
