With Spring only a few days away here in Australia, its been the perfect time for me to reflect on both my business and personal goals, and to ask myself...
"Can slowing down make me happier?"
It's so easy to put your business, your partner or your customers interests before your own. Perhaps we prioritise ticking something off the to-do list before taking a much needed break. Maybe your body is telling you to slow down but you just keep on pushing (I'm guilty of all these things... After nearly 4 years of being quite the healthy human, I was secretly hoping to get sick just so I could have a good excuse to take a break. Someone must have been listening as a few days later I did catch a cold - but continued to work every day anyway!)
We now have more money and more things, but less connection. In most cases we have no way of knowing where our things come from, and in what condition they were made. We then rush through our day without taking time to connect with those we love.
I know in my heart that fast food, fast fashion, and a fast lifestyle isn't sustainable... And at some point, something is going to crash.
We can't keep thinking happiness will come when life slows down, as that will never happen if we don't consciously create it.
With slowing down comes the appreciation of slow food and slow fashion. Taking time to truly acknowledge the story and the people who made your meal or purchase possible before it reached your hands. Knowing where your money is going, and feeling pride in supporting the world you want to live in.
So this new season I will give myself permission to slow down, and I will not feel guilty about it. The work will still get done, the to-do's will still get ticked,
but just as quantity does not equal quality - fast does not equal fulfillment.
